Legal, Terms and Privacy

Plain-English summary: LarpOsint is a tool that gathers publicly available information for lawful research and education. You are responsible for how you use it and for following the law. The software is provided as is, with no warranty, and we are not liable for how you use it. This page is a starting template and is not legal advice. Have a lawyer review it for your situation before you rely on it.

1. Agreement to these terms

By downloading, installing, or using LarpOsint (the "Software") or this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Software or the website. If you use LarpOsint on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are authorized to accept these terms for that organization.

2. The software and your license

LarpOsint is an open-source-intelligence (OSINT) desktop application that aggregates information that is already publicly available from third-party sources. It runs locally on your own device.

Subject to these terms, you are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software. A Pro or Team license key is tied to you or your organization and may be limited to a set number of devices. You may not resell, sublicense, share, or redistribute license keys, and you may not copy, decompile, or reverse engineer the Software except where the law expressly allows it.

3. Acceptable use

You may use LarpOsint only for lawful purposes, such as authorized security research, journalism, due diligence, and education. You are solely responsible for how you use the Software and for the legality of your actions.

You agree that you will not use LarpOsint to:

  • Stalk, harass, threaten, dox, intimidate, or harm any person.
  • Break any law, regulation, or court order that applies to you, including privacy, data-protection, anti-hacking, and computer-misuse laws.
  • Access systems or accounts you are not authorized to access.
  • Violate the terms of service of any website, platform, or data source you query.
  • Collect, store, or process personal data in a way that is unlawful in your jurisdiction.
  • Discriminate against, defraud, or endanger any individual or group.

We may suspend or revoke your license if you use the Software in a way that breaks these rules, without limiting any other remedy available to us.

4. Disclaimer of warranties

THE SOFTWARE AND WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

We do not warrant that the Software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that any information it returns is accurate, complete, current, or lawful to use. Information comes from third-party sources that we do not control. You use the Software and rely on its output at your own risk.

5. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, LARPOSINT AND ITS CREATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SOFTWARE OR WEBSITE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE OR WEBSITE WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID FOR THE SOFTWARE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM, OR TWENTY US DOLLARS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty or liability exclusions, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits.

6. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless LarpOsint and its creator from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) that arise out of or relate to your use of the Software, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any law or the rights of any third party.

7. Payments and refunds

Paid licenses are sold as digital goods and are delivered as a license key. Payments are processed by third-party providers (for example a card processor or a cryptocurrency payment gateway); we do not receive or store your full payment details.

Because license keys are delivered digitally and cannot be returned once issued, all sales are final and non-refundable, except where a refund is required by law. If a payment was charged in error or you never received a working key, contact us and we will make it right.

8. Privacy policy

LarpOsint is built to be local-first. Your investigations, targets, results, cases, and any API keys you add are stored on your own device and are not sent to us.

This website collects only limited, privacy-friendly analytics (aggregate page views and performance) through a cookieless tool, which does not identify you personally. When you buy a license, our payment providers process the information needed to complete the sale, such as your email and payment method, under their own privacy policies. We use your email only to deliver your license key and to provide support. We do not sell your personal information.

If you would like us to delete an email address or purchase record we hold, contact us and we will do so where we are able.

9. Third-party services

The website and the Software rely on third-party services, including website hosting, file hosting for downloads, payment processing, and the many public data sources the Software queries. Those services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them. Your use of any data source through the Software is also subject to that source's terms.

10. Changes and contact

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the "last updated" date above. If you keep using the Software or website after an update, you accept the new terms.

Governing law: these terms are governed by the laws of your operator's home jurisdiction. Replace this line with your state or country once confirmed with a lawyer.
